It was an ancient stopover along the ancient pilgrimage route of the Romei and hosts columns, a ciborium and a font dating back to the IInd century AD.
The river Savio connects Mercato Saraceno with Sarsina, well known both for its Cathedral which cherishes the clerical collar of San Vicinio, which is said to have thaumaturgic properties, and because the famous Latin playwright Tito Maccio Plauto was born here during the Roman Age. The National Archaeological Museum in Sarsina hosts many sepulchral monuments dating back to the Roman and pre-Roman Age, including the statues of oriental gods and ancient mosaics.
