The Butterfly House, to experience a close contact with nature...
Situated inside the pinewood forest of Cervia and Milano Marittima, in the province of Ravenna, the Butterfly House was opened in 2002 and is an unusual Centre of environmental education which hosts animals having special protection needs, that is to say butterflies. The Butterfly House is among the most appreciated destinations for children and the lovers of nature who decide to spend their holidays in Cervia and in its neighbourhoods.
The core of the Butterfly House is the 500-square-metre-large tropical greenhouse which hosts wonderful and colourful butterflies coming from India, Africa, Australia and South Africa. The greenhouse re-creates the habitat of rain forests, with a temperature ranging from 28 to 30 degrees and an humidity rate included between 65 and 70%.
Banana trees, ficus, tropical shrubs, carnivourus plants and unusual flowers decorate the paths of the greenhouse and provide support to butterflies. The ecosystem of the greenhouse is enriched by chameleons, giant beetles and mantises.
Throughout the years the naturalistic centre has continuously developed and in 2006 a new pavilion was added to host insects. To visit the Butterfly House is a good opportunity to discover the world of bees, ants, bumblebees, beetles, ladybirds and other insects.

The visit also includes a botanical itinerary and a well-kept outdoor garden which hosts an original shop selling souvenirs. Guided tours provided with shows dedicated to the life of butterflies and insects and educational labs have been designed to suit students' needs. Groups can book guided tours too.
